For the Fifth Sunday of Easter…
I am the way and the truth and the life.
No one comes to the Father except through me.
John 14:6
Good and gracious Brother Jesus, hear my prayer…
When I am at the crossroads of life, or the ruts and detours of temptation surface and I do not know the way to turn, help me go to you and recall that you are the way.
When harsh words and unfair judgments cloud my vision, or when I desire to keep pace with the crowd through idle gossip, help me to go to you and recall that you are the truth.
When darkness overcomes me and the clouds of depression and anger overtake my inner hope, and I feel as though I am dying inside, help me to go to you and recall that you are the life.
Teach me the way. Guide me in the truth. Bring me to life in the Spirit. Give me HOPE.
Amen.

The Scripture from this Sunday’s Gospel reminded me of this prayer from Sr. Bridget Haase, OSU, a longtime contributor to Living Faith. She wrote this prayer for our collection, 365 Hopeful Devotions for Catholics. It is a joy to reprint it here, and to recall our friend of happy memory. – Pat Gohn, editorial director, Living Faith
