Celebrating Mary in May
For whoever does the will of my heavenly Father is my brother, and sister, and mother. Matthew 12:50
Like most sons, I have some wonderful stories about my mother. What holds them all together is her faith and all she taught me about the life and joy that come from doing God’s will.
In Jesus’ time, people knew his mother and probably had remarkable stories about her too. What was most precious about her, as Jesus said, was her attention to doing the will of God. Today, both my mom and Mary remind me to be grateful for anyone who has taught and nurtured me, “mothered” me into doing God’s will.
And tomorrow? I’ll be celebrating my mother’s life, along with the many other “mothers” who have been rich blessings to me.
