Focus on Prayer
Rising very early before dawn, he left and went off to a deserted place, where he prayed. Mark 1:35
Here we have some insight into the spiritual practices of Jesus. If the Son of God knew it was important to seek God first thing in the morning, we can make the assumption that a morning quiet time is crucial for the rest of us. What we do first often determines the trajectory of our day. If the alarm blares and we hit snooze several times, catapult out of bed, slam some coffee and hit the road, we can be pretty sure that our day will unfold with us being rushed, scattered, and feeling like we are running behind. By setting our alarm a bit earlier and being intentional about seeking God first in Scripture, worship, prayer and praise, we can connect to the Source of peace before our day begins. I notice a difference when I start my days with quiet time. I pour a cup of coffee, light a candle and sit in the silence of the morning with my devotionals and journal. This time creates a foundation of gratitude and reverence that carries me through the rest of the day.
