Forgiving and Forgetting

On the reflection from 12/16, Jane relays something encouraging: She is working on overcoming her past hurts and pains to walk more fully with Lord Jesus.

My struggle many times is differentiating between forgiving and forgetting. Past experiences and hurts can be a benefit when we learn from them—we can learn how to protect ourselves in the future, we can learn how and what not to do to others, we can learn compassion and sympathy, all if we use our hurtful experiences in a positive way—in the way Paul tells us in Romans 8:28. We don’t have to forget but we can forgive and look to the future God offers, with eyes blessed in wisdom because of the experiences He walked us through.
