For the Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity
God so loved the world that he gave his only Son,
so that everyone who believes in him might not perish
but might have eternal life. John 3:16
Like many Catholics, I was baptized as an infant, having no memory of it. Yet it ushered me into a relationship with the Trinity before I was even aware of it! Baptism makes us children of God. And while that may sound like a platitude, it’s the truth and worthy of deeper consideration.

It is correct to say that God so loved me that he gave me new life through his Son, Jesus. Plus, we who believe are also granted a share in the Holy Spirit, who is our guide and advocate in our earthly pilgrimages to heaven, that one day we may live that eternal life with God.
God so loves us that we are invited into the exchange of love that is the Trinity. The Catechism of the Catholic Church (para. 221) states:
God’s very being is love. By sending his only Son and the Spirit of Love in the fullness of time, God has revealed his innermost secret: God himself is an eternal exchange of love, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, and he has destined us to share in that exchange.
