Heaven Is Our Home

Read John 14:1-15

“There’s no place like home!” Yes, there may be our times in life when we feel  somewhat “distant” from our roots. But then there are also times when we feel “homesick” and long to renew the family ties.

Since our Savior taught us to pray to “our Father who art in heaven,” every praying of the Our Father becomes a reminder that ”heaven is our home.” Read that sentence out loud four times, and each time emphasize a different word:

HEAVEN is our home.
Heaven IS our home.
Heaven is OUR home.
Heaven is our HOME.

Every Sunday—and often in between—we have the opportunity to join with other members of our Christian family in the place we often call “the house of the Lord.” One reason it is important for us to get together like that is to be reminded again of our “family ties” and where it is we are going together. We are united with Christ who left His heavenly home to go the way of the cross for all of us and to rise from the grave to open the door of eternal life for believers. Like the prodigal son, we are bound for home!

As I pray the Our Father today, I will focus attention on my heavenly home. I will think about being “forever with the Lord”—and with my loved ones.
