She gave birth to a son, a male child, destined to rule all the nations… Revelation 12:5
The Queenship of Mary—Pope Benedict XVI called it “a title of trust, of joy, and of love.” Isn’t that beautiful? Of course, the woman who bore, nursed and loved Jesus is worthy of such an august name.
As for ourselves, on most days we may not feel much like queens- or kings-in-the-making. But Mary is always there in our corner, lifting us up in the situations where we’re tempted to lose hope, or in the sorrows that seem so unfair and insurmountable. It was faith that helped Mary persevere through Simeon’s prophecy, through the three days the child Jesus was missing, through his crucifixion—and to the resurrection. She longs to intercede for us to embrace that same faith and trust, never more than during the times we feel devoid of hope. She longs to advocate for us for our place in heaven.
Hail, Holy Queen! Help me to live today in a way pleasing to you and your Son, the King.
