Mary, Our Hope

Can a mother forget her infant…
I will never forget you. Isaiah 49:15

A universal image of unconditional love is that of a mother. She looks at her children with an affection that is unique and unconditional, no matter how they have sinned.

Mary reminds us of this “maternal” love of God. While we rightly address God as Father, we are reminded of God’s unconditional love as we gaze on the face of our heavenly Mother.

Thus do we look to Mary our Mother and address her as “our life, our sweetness and our hope.” No matter how far we have fallen, in this heavenly Mother, we have a sure hope.

Mary, Mother of God and my Mother, I know you will never forget me. Reach down to your child and raise me up, so that I might live forever in the radiant presence of God.
