Vicky G., on the reflection from 1/19, affirms the rewards of obedience and faith.
Don’t underrate yourselves, my wandering minded friends! Obedience is what God asked of Saul. He decided to make his own rules and that’s what got him in trouble. If he would have just followed what God said without thinking he could make it better…or at least acknowledged his wrongdoing and made a resolution to not take matters into his own hands again. So obediently attending mass is doing what Our Lord asks of us, a wandering mind…well most of the time if I begin to wander it is in response to something in the homily. Why am I going there, what meaning does it have in relation to this homily, today’s readings, God’s will for me? Sometimes that wandering is God’s voice telling me something. Not always, of course, but if we make an attempt to hear His voice in the situation He has asked us to attend in obedience, we may just find real communication in the prayer of the Mass. And if that wandering is our to do list or our other obligations, take the opportunity to ask, “How can I do these things aligned with your will?” Sometimes the obedience of attending is the hardest part in the first place.
