The river
Another life runs through us
like a mighty underground river.
It is always there
though never quite seen,
lapping incessantly
on the dry ground of our being,
exerting a powerful sway
on all we do.
In its gushing current
angels bob and play,
as do our beloved dead.
Into these same waters
I dip my pen from time to time
and snare an image, a story,
a poem.
