…if two of you agree on earth about anything for which they are to pray, it shall be granted to them by my heavenly Father. Matthew 18:19
How often do we invite others to pray in the moment? Have you been talking to a friend who is suffering with a difficult situation? Does someone you know need help and encouragement? We can give those needs directly to God on the spot.
The next time you find yourself in a conversation like that, don’t be afraid to ask, “Would you like me to pray with you about it?” If they say no, that’s ok. Smile and say you’ll remember their intention when you pray at Mass. But if they say yes, God is offering you a privileged moment to act as a friendly intercessor. Just lift a simple prayer out loud: Mention the need, ask God to bring about the best outcome and send his peace to your friend. Then close with the Lord’s Prayer. The whole thing lasts less than two minutes, and God will have used your faithfulness to bring another person’s need before the throne of grace.
