‘Short-sighted Fixes’

On the Father’s Day devotion on 6/16, Bill S. appreciates author Melanie Rigney’s insight about how the world tempts us to live according to our wills instead of God’s. He shares how he has been tempted in this way in his life and how he works to overcome it.

Melanie, your words really hit home with me today. Having been on this journey as a caregiver for my wife (now in year 11), there was a brief period where I entered into counseling because I just wanted out of it. Thankfully my counselor was the wife of a Presbyterian minister and told me to “look for the joy and goodness in the suffering.” At times it has been hard to find the joy, but daily reading here on LF, all of your encouraging messages and prayers, and the help of my pastor have brought me through it. God’s ways are true, His plan is perfect.

How can you “look for the joy and the goodness in the suffering” in your life?
