I think both readings affirm the wisdom of obedience to the will of God even in the small, routine and mundane things of life. My wife says life is 95% laundry and 5% ecstasy. In both of today’s parables, there is a focus on the power of doing something small, sowing a small seed and adding a small amount of leaven to flour. Is Jesus assuring his group of disciples that their small beginnings will bring forth something wonderful? I think so, something that today we can all vouch for. The two parables also speak to our own efforts to do what is right and good. If we allow the Lord to work through us in even small ways, we will be surprised at the good that will result. …I have regretted not responding to thoughts to do something that in my estimation were trivial. I now see them as Divine prompts to be acted upon.
