…do not worry about how you are to speak or what you are to say… For it will not be you who speak but the Spirit of your Father speaking through you. Matthew 10:19, 20
This is a such an empowering bit of Scripture for me! I have often worried about what to say in certain situations. Many times I have shied away from arguments, convinced that others were more verbally articulate, that they would make me look foolish if I dared contradict them. That translated to my Catholic faith also. How many of us have felt uncomfortable defending our faith or even discussing it with others?
Today’s charge to “not worry” gives us a glimpse of the power of the Holy Spirit. We are reminded that the words we use are not ours alone. Knowing that we are God’s messengers is especially important as we venture into a world that concurrently shuns religion and is desperate for what the “Spirit of [our] Father” has to say. Are we confident enough to allow the Spirit to say it through us?
Holy Spirit, help me proudly proclaim your message.
