Come, let us bow down in worship;
let us kneel before the LORD who made us. Psalm 95:6
There is a saying, “You’ve got to stand for something or you’ll fall for anything.” There is certainly some truth in that little nugget of wisdom. We are called to stand solid in our Christian beliefs and apply those beliefs to issues we face in our lives. We must stand firm in Christ.
But equally—or perhaps more—important are the decisions we make about who or what we kneel before. Especially during this Lenten season, when we are called to pray and worship more intensely and frequently, it is wise to ask ourselves: To whom or what else besides God am I giving my allegiance and worship? Other parts of our lives are certainly important, and we can have many “passions,” but we must always remember that there is only one name before which we are called to kneel and worship—the name above all names, Jesus.
Jesus, I kneel before you, the word incarnate, creative and eternal.
