A November to Remember
Then they left their nets and followed him. Mark 1:18
You are called to follow Christ, in little ways, every day. These calls are not always recognized for what they are. You may experience an interior nudging to do good, to reach out to the lonely, those imprisoned or who have fallen upon hard times. Perhaps a sincere desire to cast aside unhealthy ways of relating to others will rise in your heart, or maybe a call to deepen your life in Christ, to be more faithful to prayer or to be more present to those in your own household. A call doesn’t always contain a voice saying, “Follow me.” Silent calls are knowing, without understanding why you know, that you are being drawn toward something that you cannot name.
In St. Benedict’s rule, monastics are urged to put aside everything when the bell calls them to prayer and go immediately to fulfill the work of God. Can you recall a time when you dropped everything to answer a call?
Loving God, give me a listening heart that I may hear your call each day.
