Surprising Sacrificial Love

On the reflection from 11/16, Anne L. shares an “aha” moment about recognizing what the Lord wants us to do is exactly where we expect it.

I was somewhat surprised when I read through the list of what were ways that we could practice sacrificial love, the one that spoke to me was “to be gracious when inconvenienced.” And it mainly brought to mind the times that my plans for the day/evening were very much focused on something in service to the Lord and then something interfered with those plans — my husband being late in coming home from work and dinner being delayed, or one of my children vying for my attention in order to tell me about something that had upset them at school that day while I kept looking at the clock. It was only years later that I recognized that my plans for doing “the Lord’s work” weren’t always what His plans were for me in those circumstances and I was called to repent for showing that I was “inconvenienced” at those times. Showing sacrificial love doesn’t always present itself as we imagine it will.
