Taking a Flight of Divine Fancy

They that hope in the Lord will renew their strength,
they will soar as with eagles’ wings;
They will run and not grow weary,
walk and not grow faint. Isaiah 40:31

With Christmas coming [soon], many of us may be feeling the pressure of too little time left for all the shopping, decorating, baking card writing, gift wrapping and socializing that has come to be associated with Christmas. In our frenzy, we often act as though Christmas itself depended on our preparations. Today would be a good day to take to heart the verse from Isaiah quoted above. As you ponder this verse, look out a window and imagine you see an eagle flying overhead. Notice how it appears to soar effortlessly on the invisible but powerful wind currents. It circles and dives and sails up again in perfect freedom of movement. Imagine that the eagle is a symbol of God’s presence in your life, and let your spirit soar with God for a minute. Enjoy the freedom and lightness of movement as you circle over your home, family, church and community. Realize that God is in charge of Christmas, and your most important preparation is to place your hope and trust in God.
