The Holiest Sunday of the Year

The Resurrection of the Lord

…[we] ate and drank with him after he rose from the dead.

Acts 10:41

We often honor our achievements, victories and significant anniversaries by celebrating with family and friends at a dinner. It is a time to reminisce, relax and remember. When Jesus accomplished his earthly years of salvation ministry, he concluded with the notoriously heavy Cross and horrific death. Then, from the dark, damp, rock-hewn tomb, he emerged triumphantly into the golden glory of victorious resurrected life. Jesus had to celebrate with his Apostles and friends. Peter, the spokesman for the group, ecstatically informs us that they ate and drank with the Lord at the grand post-resurrection dinner. We also need to celebrate Easter as the greatest and holiest Sunday of the year. On this day, we want to give time for meditation, Scripture reading, prayer, singing and especially eating and drinking as we receive the sacrament of the holy Eucharist. Eastertide inspires us to uplift our Alleluias and rejoice in God’s saving grace.
