At nightfall, weeping enters in,
but with the dawn, rejoicing. Psalm 30:6
At times, things can look bleak in the world and sometimes even in our own lives. For the person who is battling terminal cancer, the millions stuck in grinding poverty or the parents who have just lost a child, their overwhelming suffering threatens to blot out the light.
To believe in the resurrection, to be an Easter people, is to hold to the ultimate triumph of goodness and grace. Even in our darkest hour when the hand of evil oppresses most strongly, we know there is One who has gone before us. He himself has undergone death and now leads us to the Easter light.
As a priest, I connect daily with people in their sufferings. My heart aches with each of them. While I cannot take away their pain as I would like, I can offer the sure knowledge of the Risen Lord. Just a little longer for each of us, and the light will surely shine…forever.
