To Be A Child of God

Fourth Sunday of Easter

Beloved:
See what love the Father has bestowed on us
that we may be called the children of God.
Yet so we are.                       1 John 3:1

What is the greatest love ever bestowed on us? It is the Father’s Love through our Baptism. For through it we became a child of God. Earlier this month, we walked and prayed through the Paschal Mystery, where Jesus Christ won our salvation and open the door to new life—the opportunity to become daughters and sons of God.

Earlier this month I celebrated the anniversary my Baptism, my birthday in Christ on April 10. It was years ago when I was an infant. It took me years (decades!) to grow into the knowledge of God and to receive the love that he shared with me. But that doesn’t change the fact that he was loving me, long before I was aware of that love, and when I finally chose to love him back.

It’s important to know who we are and whose we are. “Child of God” is my identity.

Heavenly Father, thank you for creating me and making me your beloved daughter. Thank you for Jesus who revealed you to me. Send your love to each reader who needs your fatherly love and care this day.
