Total Love

…but one soldier thrust his lance into his side, and immediately blood and water flowed out.

John 19:34

[We Catholics]  celebrate the Sacred Heart of Jesus, the symbol of Jesus’ eternal and compassionate love for each of us. As Jesus hung on the Cross, a soldier pierced his side with a lance. The flowing out of blood and water was the sign that Jesus poured out his life for us in an act of total self-giving. This act of love illustrates the meaning of what we celebrate today.

The Sacred Heart of Jesus is our reminder of who God is for us—and of who we are meant to be for one another. We are important to God, and this becomes more meaningful as we grow in awareness of his loving presence within us.

Lord, may I never forget the love, help and guidance you have given me in the past. May I become more aware of your loving presence in the here and now. And may I faithfully trust in your promise of resurrection and fullness of life that is yet to come.
