Our Daily Bread
Get up and eat, else the journey will be too long for you!
1 Kings 19:7
I fasted on Friday of this week. The lack of food made me tired. It was a bit difficult to get going and get some work done. When we think of all the people in the world who daily do not have enough to eat, we understand how difficult it is for them to get through the day. We should try to feed them.
It is the same for our spirit. It needs nourishment to get through the day and to finally make it into eternity. God knows this and is committed to feeding us. God feeds us with his very self—Jesus. He is our spiritual bread.
Let us make sure we take in enough of this bread every day to be sufficiently nourished. We meet Jesus in the Word, in the Eucharist, in our prayer and in our daily encounters in the marketplace. He is the living bread that nourishes us now and for eternity.
