For the Baptism of the Lord…
And a voice came from heaven,
“You are my beloved Son;
with you I am well pleased.”
Luke 3:22
Never in human history had the voice of God been heard like this. The Eternal Father pours more love than the cosmos can hold into his Beloved Son, Jesus.
Let us take a moment to see that this dramatic moment between Jesus and the Father also has import for us. The prayers and the Rite of Baptism, spoken by the voice of the priest or deacon, together with the Sign of the Cross and the water, makes us God’s children.
Almighty God is crazy in love with us, too! Thanks to the belovedness of the Son, we have a share in being beloved of God through grace.
Baptism happens only once in our lives. But the ripple effects from its graces builds a foundation for living a life of love, a life resembling the Beloved.
Dear Father in Heaven, thank you for my rebirth through the Sacrament of Baptism. Help me to walk and talk and live like Jesus.
