For the Twelfth Sunday in Ordinary Time…
You are worth more than many sparrows.
Matthew 10:31
Our self-worth, at times, can be lacking. Things people have said to us or events that have taken place can affect what we think about ourselves. It’s easy to replay those negative voices in our head. We can doubt ourselves because we failed at something or didn’t meet our own expectations.
If the above scenarios fill your mental space today, then those words from the Gospel are meant for you. You are worth more than sparrows. God provides for the birds of the air, giving them food to eat. If God cares about the animals of Creation, know how much he cares for and loves you.
You are worth more because Jesus redeemed and forgives you. You are worth more because you can know the Lord and worship him with your entire being. If there are days you doubt your worth, look up at a crucifix, and see the one who looks down at you and hear him say, “You are enough.”
Lord, help me to know my worth as your beloved child.
